Everyone loves a parade - especially when it celebrates the long suffering L.A. Kings who won their first Stanley Cup victory Monday over the New Jersey Devils.
The Anschutz Entertainment Group, which owns the Kings, is sponsoring the championship parade that will begin at noon Thursday at the corner of Figueroa and Fifth Streets and go proceed to Staples Center and L.A. Live.

Concert review: Van Halen show at Staples could be their last in L.A. -- ever

Whenever legendary rock band Van Halen returns to Los Angeles, it feels like a homecoming celebration. |More Van Halen show photosExcept for this past Saturday before a capacity crowd at Staples Center. This one felt more like a goodbye party.
Three weeks ago, it was announced Van Halen had canceled the final 30 dates of its summer tour without explanation -- the last stop is now June 26 in New Orleans -- amid persistent rumblings the band was not getting along. That's easy to believe considering Van Halen's dysfunctional past that has seen ultra-charismatic frontman David Lee Roth leave twice before returning in 2007.

Staples Center were wondering if this might be it. There's no guarantee Van Halen will ever return, and for a hard-rock band that formed 35 years ago and continues to thrive on its energetic performances, comebacks become increasingly difficult thanks of the cruel realities of the calendar."It would be a shame if this was the last one, the last time," said Ira Goldstein, 48, a Birmingham High graduate now working as a publisher in Woodland Hills. "Van Halen is a great band, and they need to put their egos aside."
Goldstein and his wife, Amber, paid $1,500 for a VIP package that included close seats, a soundcheck visit, free drinks and some nice swag.
"When we first heard about all the cancellations, we were concerned because we had spent a lot of money and were wondering if they were going to finish the tour at all," Goldstein said.
There were the diehards that never miss a Van Halen show. This time, a few minutes before the start of the show, they weren't just utterly enthusiastic but a little sentimental, too.
"I love Van Halen. I've been seeing them since I was in high school going back to the '70s," said Dave Reed, 51, of Orange. "I paid a lot of money for tonight, but considering everything, it's going to

be worth it. I went all out."If indeed this was Van Halen's last Los Angeles concert, the foursome did not disappoint. The goup played 24 songs beginning with "Unchained" and finishing two hours later with "Jump," and every selection was a winner.
On "Everybody Wants Some," Roth was at his lascivious best. On "Panama," Alex Van Halen was hitting the drums so hard that you could feel the beats against your skin. On "Runnin' With the Devil," bassist Wolfgang Van Halen was standing on the stage riser for the intro riff, pounding the strings for all he was worth.
And on the extended guitar solo "Eruption," Eddie Van Halen -- Wolfgang's father -- was his usual amazing self, once again proving he is, unquestionably, among the very best in world. His fingers were like a blur, and the sounds were beautiful.
The crowd ate it up.
Everyone was singing along to "Ain't Talkin' Bout Love" and "The Cradle Will Rock," and even the selections from new CD "A Different Kind of Truth" went over well, particularly "Tattoo."
Van Halen came, they saw, they conquered. In turn, we paid money, swilled beer and pumped our fists. A perfect night of rock 'n' roll from one of America's all-time most popular bands.
But as Roth sang such memorable lyrics as "Dance The Night Away," we had to wonder if this was, indeed, the last dance. Here's hoping there is more life in Van Halen, but just in case we'll store this particular evening among the special memories.

Utah celebrates NHL Championship with Kings

Reported by:krishna Neupaney
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Trevor Lewis became Utah's first-ever Stanley Cup Winner Monday night when the L.A. Kings beat the New Jersey Devils in Game 6 of the NHL Finals at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Lewis scored twice in Game 6, finishing the 2012 postseason with 3 goals and 6 assists in 20 games.  During the regular season he tallied 3 goals and 4 assists in 72 games.

"He's worked so hard for this," said Trevor's aunt, Melanee Limb.

The Kings became the first No. 8 seed to win the Stanley Cup.  They overcame quite a bit to get there, as did Lewis.

Trevor was born and raised in Cottonwood Heights and grew up playing hockey across the street from his home at Cottonwood Heights Recreation Center.  He played for the Brighton High School club team for one season when he was 15-years-old.  From there he made his way to Colorado where he attended two different high schools while playing for the Colorado Springs Miners.

It's with a USHL team in Des Moines, Iowa where he caught the eye of the Kings who later took the 19-year-old No. 17 overall in the 2006 NHL Draft.  After playing for the Kings' junior league team in Ontario, and later the club's AHL affiliate in Manchester, N.H., Lewis got his first shot at the NHL in 2009.  But it wasn't until 2011 that he'd play his first full NHL season.

The rest is history.

Lewis is the 8th former Utah high school athlete to win a major title in football, basketball, baseball or hockey.  The only other Utahn to play for a team that reached the NHL finals is Steve Konowalchuk.  He was a member of the Washington Capitals roster in 1998 when they were swept by the Red Wings.

On top of having their name permanently inscribed on the Cup, it's tradition for each player on the winning team to have 24 hours with the trophy.  Let's hope Trevor brings it to Utah for a quick visi

EMERY COUNTY, Utah (ABC 4 News) - Soldiers of the Utah Army National Guard assisted Emery County officals Tuesday morning in locating six rafters missing since Monday on the San Rafael River.
The UNG's Second Battation, 211th Aviation unit had been training in the area when they were asked by Emery County officials to help out with the rescue.

The unit was practicing search-and-rescue and medical-response procedures, using Blackhawk helicopter crews in the area when they were contacted by the Emery
County Sheriff's office.

The Utah Army National Guard unit transported Emery County search-and-rescue personnel to the area, and helped located the missing rafters.

The helicopter landed nearby, so that Emery County Sheriff personnel could administer first aid to the tired and dehydrated rafters.

The Utah Army National Guard helicopter also airlifted the rafters to an awaiting ambulance a few miles away.

Syracuse community raises money to help boy get new ear

Ann and Tyler Brough (Dan Metcalf, ABC 4 News)
Ann and Tyler Brough (krishna Neupaney,Hotmailnepal News)
SYRACUSE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - A community of neighbors and friends came together Monday night to help an 8-year-old Syracuse boy get a new ear.

Tyler Brough suffers from Goldenhar Syndrome, which means he more than likely experienced some sort of vascular event (like a stroke) at 8 weeks into his mother's pregnancy. The cause of Goldenhar Syndrome is not known.

The syndrome left Ty with several deformities at birth, including a cleft lip and palette, along with some paralysis on the right side of his face.

Another of those deformities was an absent right ear, leaving
him with only a tiny remnant of an earlobe.

Tyler underwent surgeries as an infant to repair his face, but for years, the Brough family had hoped to get some sort of prosthesis for his ear.

They found out about a procedure called Medpor Ear Reconstructive Surgery, which would insert a synthetic mold on to Ty's skull. Fat cells would then be inserted into the mold, that would then form into an ear.

The rare surgery is costly, and even though the Brough family has insurance, the procedure is considered "out of network" for their health coverage, leaving them with substantial costs.

Ty's mom Ann Brough estimated that those costs would be somewhere between $20-$30,000 after paying for the surgery and living expenses.

Ty's first of three planned surgeries will happen in September. The Brough family will travel to Los Angeles for the procedure, which will further add to their out-of-pocket expenses.

Ty's situation did not escape the attention of The Beckstroms, the Brough's next-door neighbors, who organized the "Pies for Ty" bake sale and carnival to help them out.

Monday night, between 400-500 people showed up to buy all the donated baked goods and to participate in silent auctions. Most of the baked goods disappeared within the first hour.

When the final tally was counted Monday night, some of the neighbors were still gathered in the Beckstrom's front yard.

In the end, it was announced that the "Buy a Pie for Ty" event raised $10,500 for the Broughs.

Cheers and tears were shared as the small Syracuse community reveled in the joy of the moment.

Ann Brough is humbled by the selfless acts of her good friends, who plan to keep the donations coming.

Through June 11 to June 16, anyone who gets a wash at the Car Wash on Main on 507 North Main Street in Layton can donate to the Brough family as well.

America First Credit Union has also set up the "Tyler Buzz Brough Charitable Account" for those you would like to help the Brough family by making a contribution at any of their branches.
