"Taanya is a beautiful, intelligent and multi-faceted computer science student in Mumbai. As she is about to pass out of college, her parents begin to talk about her marriage. That's when she tells them that she likes a boy called Tej and wants to marry him.

Tej also loves her but is reluctant to accept the proposal because of a problem in his family. While he does not want to cheat her by keeping the truth from her, he is scared of losing her if he tells her about his family's problem. His friends try to convince him that every family has some problem so he need not even mention it to Taanya.

Finally, when Tej and Taanya's families meet, there seems to be no problem and the proposal is mutually agreed upon. A grand wedding takes place and Taanya arrives in her sasuraal. Carl Wimmer's rough road trip to Vegas
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Former Utah legislator and failed congressional candidate Carl Wimmer is blaming it all on Nevada.

Early this week, Wimmer announced he had a new job as the Republican Political Director in Nevada.

But then Nevada Republican officials said Wimmer didn't have the job.

And Thursday at a big press event, Wimmer acknowledged he doesn't have the job and likely never will.

Wimmer isn't the first person to come back from Nevada having lost big time.

But most don't go bust quite so publicly.

In fact Carl Wimmer's life has become kind of a country western song.

He's lost his legislative seat, his bid for congress, his mustache and a job he never had.

Thursday, at the University of Utah’s Hinckley Institute of Politics, Wimmer told reporters,

"I was in the dark as much as anybody here."

This has now become a case of he said, he said - does anybody really care?

Wimmer says he was offered the GOP Political Director job in Nevada.

But the word from Nevada Republicans was: Carl who?

Thursday, ABC 4 News asked Wimmer,

"If this wasn't you and you heard this story about somebody else, would you believe it?"

To which Wimmer replied,

“Knowing the state of the Nevada GOP, nothing would surprise me."

But, for Wimmer, what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas.

His already tarnished Utah reputation (after his convention loss to Mia Love) hasn't been helped by this Vegas road trip gone bad.

So, again, we asked Wimmer,

"You don't have your legislative seat anymore, you lost the bid for U.S. Congress, this job isn't there...are you still politically relevant?”

Wimmer’s honest reply was,

“I am not sure I am politically relevant or if it matters that I am politically relevant."

Fire burns above Ogden

No homes were immediately threatened, but the fire spread quickly uphill.

The fire burned near 900 North, and crews were working to get it under control.

Sex offender candidate faces restrictions

SALT LAKE CITY Utah (ABC 4 News) – A candidate for school board will face restrictions if he’s elected.

Richard Wagner Jones wants to be on the Granite School Board. He’s running for election.

His biggest problem is that he's also on the sex offender registry. Jones doesn’t see that as an issue.

"23 years ago I was convicted of a sex offense, a crime and that's all been taken care of and is behind us," he told ABC 4 News.

Utah prison officials say Jones isn't on probation and can run for school board. But there are restrictions.

"One of those restricted zones that he cannot go is schools,” says Steve Gehrke with the Utah Department of Corrections. “People say if he's running for school board doesn't that create problems. There are exceptions carved out in the law.”

Gehrke says if there is a school board meeting inside a school he would be allowed to attend the meeting. But he could not visit a school whenever he pleases.

According to prison officials sex offenders who are rehabilitated rarely commit the offense again.

Gehrke says recidivism rates among those who graduate from a treatment program are 19%. That’s compared to 47% who don't go through a treatment program.

And he says of those who are rehabilitated they reoffend less than one percent.

“It is impressive and that's looking at graduates in the program,” Gehrke says.

“There is a stigma out there. People just assume sex offenders are always sex offenders.”

Romney to visit Utah for fundraisers, Hatch photo-op

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) - Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney will visit Utah on Friday to help raise money for himself and to boost Senator Orrin Hatch's campaign.


It will be the first Utah visit from Romney since he essentially wrapped up the Republican nomination with a primary win in Texas last week, and the first Beehive State visit since Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich dropped out of the race.

Romney is familiar face in Utah since he served as president/CEO for the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games.

Romney will attend a handful of private fundraising events during his brief visit on Friday, which will not be open to the public or media.

Romney has been jet-setting across the country to key battleground states in the past two months.

The candidate will more than likely not spend much time in Utah over the months leading up to November's general election, since he is expected to win all 6 of the state's electoral votes handily.

A news release from the Romney campaign said that former the Massachusetts Governor will appear with Hatch at a private plane terminal at the Salt Lake International Airport on Friday afternoon, and that the event will be open to media for "photo op only."

Hatch faces a primary battle on June 26 against fellow GOP challenger Dan Liljenquist.

Suicidal man causes SWAT standoff in Cache County
PROVIDENCE, Utah (ABC 4 News) - The Cache County Sheriff's Office says a suicidal man barricaded himself inside a Providence home, forcing a standoff with SWAT officers on Thursday.

Sheriff's officials say shots were fired from inside the home, but that negotiators made contact with the man afterward.

Officials say the man had access to weapons inside the home at 100 East Center Street.

Sheriff's officials say 8 nearby homes were evacuated during the standoff.

Negotiators say they lost contact with the 23-year-old man late Friday afternoon, and had not been able to communicate with him since around 3:30 p.m.
